It's been about 4 months since I kicked "the habit"... How is it different? For starters, without a doubt, I definitely feel healthier. I sleep better too. I think puffing that last stick before you sleep kind of reactivates the brains so it's still active when you're trying to fall asleep.
Next, according to various weighing scales (cos I couldn't believe it), I've put on 2 kg and now find my weight fluctuates between that additional 2kg to a 4kg (sometimes) which is pretty much fine by me. The people that see me often don't notice it but those who hardly see me, can tell the difference. I definitely can tell the difference by putting on my pants. Even though it's the same pair I'm wearing, the fit is different now.
What's bad that came out of it is the addiction to anything sweet. Coke, cakes, sweet, cookies, chocolates (especially) and any huge hint of presence of sugar has my mouth watering with crave. I don't know... I think it's a whole new addiction. I just went to the petrol station on the way out for lunch to draw out some cash and I passed by this amazing looking tub of cake that's meant to last a few days. I gave it a hard stare, picked it up and thought of the chocolate cookies I had this morning and put it down.
At about 4pm just now, my mind went back to that cake and I drove out to get it and sliced up some and ate about 4 pieces. To stop from continuing further, I distributed to some colleagues. It's that bad! Writing this, I'm realising even more it's THAT BAD. Good lord...
Besides sweet cravings, I enjoy my yoga and pilates classes and I find that exercising without smoking gives a new meaning to how I want to be healthy. I'm proud of actually spending time and effort in exercise. With yoga, it relaxes me and helps me sleep better that I don't feel like crap when I try to get up the next day.
Over this four months, things have changed for the better. The cravings are still there, it's probably why I eat to glory sometimes but I remind myself how far I've come to change that and how difficult it was and how I've made my family and friends proud. Mostly, I'm proud of myself that I've done this for me.
Now, to cut down on the sugar... I need help!
